In legend, the Kamikochi Valley of Sangaku National Park is where the gods descended to Earth. The tranquil valleys of Kamikochi and Hakuba, the towering peaks of the Northern Alps, the cedar, oak and pine forests, blossoming meadows, clear lakes, and rushing rivers, inspire the Japanese  Shinrin-Yoku or Forest Bathing.

In the shadows of Japan’s tallest mountain range, the ancient villages of Hakuba Valley faced hard winters and isolation. Merchants traveling through on the Shio No Michi (Salt Road) delivered crafts, art and culture to the region  Experience the traditional arts of Nagano alive and well here. The tradition extends to modern day artists like Yayoi Kusama and Masuo Ikeda who call Nagano home

The Rich Beauty of Japanese Living at Nagasawa Villa

Why the Nagasawa Villa?

We bought this house from the last surviving member of the Nagasawa family in 2023. We were charmed by the elegance of the historic home from the moment we entered. The beautiful sun porches that look out onto a meticulous Japanese garden, the ancient architecture of the mud-walled kura storage building. The house was so well maintained that it felt like stepping into a time machine; the venerable structure was still vibrant and alive. We knew we wanted to share this unique experience with others who could appreciate the beauty  and richness of Japanese culture and tradition.
